This is Karen
Melbourne chef, restaurateur and food-writer Karen Martini has been cooking professionally for more than 20 years. She trained at top restaurant Tansy’s in the early 1990s and has headed restaurant kitchens including the iconic Melbourne Wine Room and Icebergs Dining Room in Sydney. Her current passion is her artisan pizza restaurant, St Kilda’s much-loved pizzeria, mr. wolf, which hasn’t had a quiet day since it opened. It is still a favourite place for Karen to develop dishes and food ideas.
“The idea was to open a little hole in the wall selling Margarita pizza on a Monday, but somehow we ended up with a major pizza destination,” she says.
|As executive chef, Karen has held two chef’s hats in Sydney and Melbourne, and countless other awards along the way.
Karen’s kitchen career has been balanced by media commitments, charity dinners, amazing cookbooks and much-loved recipe columns, including a role as food editor of Sunday Life magazine, with the Sunday Age and Sun-Herald newspapers. Since Karen became a mother in 2006 her love of relaxed cooking with fresh, healthy, seasonal produce has intensified.
Karen Martini’s food message is drawn from her professional cooking career, her Tunisian-Italian heritage, and from the challenges of feeding nutritious and stimulating food to her young family.
Karen’s television credits include both Seven Network's My Kitchen Rules, as judge, and as resident Chef on Better Homes and Gardens. Karen was also the resident chef on the Lifestyle Channel's LifeStyle Cafe.
